Vijnana



(Sanskrit, "consciousness, knowing")

  1. In Hindu Vedanta, this term is used to describe the type of knowledge of the terrestrial or materialistic mind; i.e. vi- "small" + jnana, "knowledge."
  2. In Buddhism, Vijnana is the fifth skandha and relates to the function of consciousness.
